Bring on da Bills…

Razor's Edge CrewThe second regular season tailgate brought with it my favorite game time (Sundays at 1:00!) and summer-like conditions. The Cardoza trio set out early and picked up Bama at his hotel then headed over to usual rendezvous spot and waited forever for the lots to open. Once the stress of timing it right and hooking up together was over we actually managed to assemble in an excellent square configuration rather than the long row which facilitated communication and mingling.

Karen and Don’s crew started the morning right with home-made blueberry muffins, mimosas, and breakfast burritos. True to form, Robyn and Geoff served up pancakes as an early course. Jake resorted to traditional scrambled eggs before Al fired up the grill to throw on swordfish, sausages, and burgers. Naturally, the buffalo chili pot was on the stove, although it actually was too hot IMO.

Dana and Lisa’s turkey bacon wrapped scallops were a nice appetizer to the delicious pork roast which followed. Zip and Monty’s grills were blazing and I saw plenty-o-buffalo chicken making the rounds. Dave Levine brought along some teriyaki skewers and Darren was wielding his tool so his grill must have been full as well. (Honestly, there’s so much food going round, statements of “I need to pace myself,” and “No, thanks; can’t eat another bite,” pass many a lip. I definitely can’t keep track of everything that is going round.)

Laureen and Larry were up for their second game in a row, Miguel was one of the early birds, Ed Bryant came bearing song: (which has since disappeared from my kitchen table) and regulars Robin and Bob, Darren, Mike (who snoozed with Quinn), Dana & Lisa, Monty, Zip, who according to Bama was holding court, The Drink-a-lots, TBrownslady, and JoePhoto, and respective guests were in true Patriotic form. Zip’s group alone must have taken up a whole section with tailgate vets Charts, Coach, Bob, Joel, Gene, Jeremy joining in the fun. Dave had his Pats bar set up along the walkway and we stopped in en route to the Stadium. He and Heather stopped by earlier with their little Pats fan in tow.

Guests included listniks Bama, doling out hugs (aka Bamagrams) and Dave Levine, scoping out the Good, Bad and Ugly in person, Bama’s son and wife, and the infamous Chowdah with his son Little Chowdah from Patriots Fan Club of Rochester, NY. (I just call them Bowl and Cup!) They came bearing a vast variety of microbrews and left with a Bruschi Brew XII to add to the collection. From what I hear, Chowdah’s got a cushy back seat too :)

The crew managed to assemble for a full group shot complete with photo crasher Elvis from a neighboring tailgate. I think that they were the source of the Johnny Cash tunes providing a bit of pre-game entertainment. Of course, if you ask Bama, the post game roof dancing by the hotties a few rows over was THE Show of Lot 3!

From the unbelievable but true file, I even got to “set a spell” TWICE on game day! Pat’s came through with another 38 pointer bringing our record to 3-0 and fans were relaxed and enjoying the last of the summer days. Naturally, there was far too much food and drink than necessary but that’s not what brings us together each week. It’s the company that’s most definitely the biggest draw of The Razor’s Edge.

Ed Bryant’s Tailgate Song for this week:

Buffalo Bill

By Lennon, McCartney, And Bryant

Copyright: Not So Much

He went out Bronco-riding with his best-est friend, A.C.,

Cruising the 405 in 1993!

Sixteen months later, twelve kind folks said : “Not Guilty!”

All the children sing:

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Now, if I did it, and Nicole and Ron were dead:

I’d say the DNA creeps framed my Bucket Head!

And now my signing money goes to that damn Fred!

All the children sing:

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Now, Kato Kaelin works for Santa as an elf,

And my one Heisman sits on Mr. Goldman’s shelf!

I’ll go retrieve my green “Not Guilty” suit myself!

All the children sing:

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Went up to Boston, Mass. to sign a football cah-d!

Finding a Bronco space was just a bit too hah-d!

So Coach Mah-v Levy pahked his cah in Hahvud Yahd!

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?

Hey, Buffalo Bill, what did you kill, Buffalo Bill?
